Assemblymember Bryan earns his first All-Star designation, after Honorable Mention nods in each of his first two years in the State Assembly. Since his election in 2021, he has been an influential presence in the legislature, serving as a member of the California Legislative Progressive Caucus and Treasurer of the California Legislative Black Caucus. In July 2023, he was appointed Assembly Majority Leader by Speaker Robert Rivas and served in that role through November. This session, Assemblymember Bryan has continued his efforts to improve governmental transparency by authoring AB421 to require that the language used on ballot measures be simplified to help voters more accurately interpret their options to keep a law or overturn a law. A longtime supporter of criminal justice reform and civil rights, Assemblymember Bryan has also contributed to two critical pieces of legislation – AB93 to prevent law enforcement from executing searches without a warrant even if they have the consent of the property owner, and AB280 to limit the use of solitary confinement for certain populations, including youth, elderly, disabled, and pregnant individuals. With a lifetime Courage Score of 100 and increased leadership roles in his caucus, Assemblymember Bryan continues to build his reputation as a persuasive legislator and progressive champion.
